Friends of CTV

CTV is back on air!

Help us to stay there.

Cape Town may be a non-profit, free-to-air community TV channel but it costs R6 000 000 per year to run the channel. After a year of broadcasting, CTV was taken off air due a failure to pay signal distribution costs. While we managed to find the funds to get back on air, we need YOUR support to stay on air. Have a stake in your TV station with a minimum annual donation of R250.

If 5 000 of our 600 000 viewers pay R300 (R25 x 12 months) - that’s R1 250 000 which would more than cover our signal distribution costs!

As a “Friend of CTV” you will enjoy numerous benefits:

·         Your name will be listed on the “Friends of CTV” list, which will be broadcast every day.

·         You will receive regular CTV newsletters.

·         You will be on the VIP list for all public events organized by the channel.

It’s simple: Pay and send us your details.

You can pay via electronic transfer, cash or cheque. Your contribution can be paid annually or monthly. For example, you can pay a R300 as a once of annual payment or R25 per month. Simply ask your bank to set up a stop order.

New National Islamic Newspaper on the way

With the development of this community over time in South Africa, it
has thus become apparent that many sectors including media had to
become part of this ever-evolving community. With this in mind, FSMA
decided to embark on a project, which entails the production of a
monthly, tabloid size, 20 page newspaper with an Islamic ethos called
"The Islamic Times.

Print Media in essence provides a perfect platform for the community
to voice and raise issues in effect educating the public on various
matters whilst at the same time providing an opportunity for
businesses to advertise their services or products on a national level.

In an effort to reach a broader market, The Islamic Times has
incorporated content that will appeal to various markets thus
becoming a paper for everyone. The Target Market then is both male
and female, from all age groups and inclusive of all LSM groups.
Although being a paper enshrined with an Islamic ethos, the paper is
aimed to reach all demographical groups providing content for all and
ensuring an excellent opportunity for businesses no matter what the
nature of the product or service may be.

The first paper is scheduled to reach readers at the end of November
2009 say Ahmed Mohamed of FSMA. The publication is published by
Faizal Sayed Media Associates.

CTV to stage fundraising telethon

The city’s community television station, Cape Town TV (CTV) is to stage a fundraising telethon at the end of this month in order to stay afloat. The channel recently went off-air for 10 days because of cash-flow problems and is turning to viewers to support the channel.

CTV Station Manager Karen Thorne says, “CTV gets income from various sources, including funders, sponsors, airtime sales and advertising. However it is a non-profit operation that needs ongoing support from viewers as well in order to survive. If Capetonians appreciate the programming that CTV provides, then they should be prepared to give the station some concrete financial support in order to keep it on air.”

The telethon will consist of 8 live one-hour episodes which will run from 10am to 10pm on the 29th October. A variety of celebrities, including singers, comedians and poets, will appear on the show to entertain and inform viewers about this community channel and what it stands for.

Guests so far include singers such as Lu Chase, Jarred Ricketts, and Keeno Lee Hector; radio personalities Quathar Jacobs, Grant Johnson, Kia Johnson and Unity Ruiters; bands such as Brasse van die Kaap and The Rudimentals; ‘Big Brother’ winner Ferdinand Rabie, DJ’s Falko Starr and Azul, and comedian Wayne McKay. The show will be co-hosted by well-known entertainer Alvon Collison.

Viewers will be asked to pledge donations and businesses will be challenged to meet or match the contributions of their peers. Corporate sponsors will have the opportunity to introduce their businesses to viewers in on-air interviews.

CTV Advertising Manager Fagmie Fredericks says, “The show is an opportunity for the people of Cape Town to get involved with CTV. In addition to our fantastic programming, we provide a wide range of opportunities for NGOs, businesses, educational institutions and individuals to access the airwaves.

“CTV is a unique communications service for Cape Town and it is essential that Capetonians step up to the plate to keep this channel in their hands. We call on all Capetonians and businesses in the city to support CTV in this vital fundraising drive.”
