Documentary on the life of a Great Saint

With an ever growing interest in the life of the Great Muslim Saint who lies buried in Durban known as Hazrat Basha Peer, the time could not have been more apt to produce a documentary detailing his life and history says the producer, Faizal Sayed of Faizal Sayed Media Associates.
The production was commissioned by and is a joint initiative by the Chiraghe- e – Chishtia foundation and Habibia Soofie Saheb Badsha Peer Darbaar Riverside- Kenville based in Durban with the purpose of doing an an in-depth visual piece detailing every known aspect of the saint's life. Chirageh – e- Chishtia is an organisation dedicated to the research of the Sufis of the Chishtia order as well all other Sufi orders , and played a vital role in preparing the content and facilitating the production process.
Hazrat Badsha Peer arrived on the SS Truro in 1860 as in indentured labourer and as one of the first Indians to arrive from India to work on the sugar cane plantations in Durban. Since the early 1900s after the location of his grave by another mystic fondly known as Hazrat Soofie Saheb, Hazrat Badsha Peers Tomb located in the Brook Street Cemetry in Durban has become renowned as a place of spiritual benediction and reverence by many faiths and international travellers.
"The production was a challenging one from the view point that not much was known about the saint, so lots of information had to be pieced together" says content consultant, Naeem Khan of Chiraag-e-Chishtia Foundation. Khan, popular for his works on many Sufi mystic saints has been instrumental in preparing the content for the piece, working along with the commissioning organisation, the producers, technical team and other bodies to ensure the best production quality in terms of content and technical quality. "Many scenes dated to the 1800s were recreated with re enactment actors filmed strategically allowing the viewer maximum viewing quality" says Khan. The production features narrations by the internationally renowned Urdu poet and Radio lotus presenter Safee Siddiqi and extensive interviews with personalities like Hafez Fuzail Soofie who play a key role in the community regarding the teachings of the great Sufi Saints of Islam.
The Documentary can be seen shortly on the SABC and will be supplied to ITV, CTV a range of international satellite carriers.

Copies of the Documentary can be obtained by calling 0312078298 / 0835412753 in Durban, 0215911102 in Cape Town and 0118392064 in Johannesburg. A list of distribution points will be available on www.chishtiafoundation.com or via email at info@chishtiafoundation.com

THE ISLAMIC TIMES WELL RECEIVED

The new Islamic newspaper called The Islamic Times which was recenly launched is being well received according to publishers, Faizal Sayed Media.  "The second edition has hit the shelves and the Ramadaan and Eid edition is in the making" Says Ahmed Mohamed, the operations manager.
The newspaper which is a community based tabloid size paper is distributed all over Cape Town at no cost to readers.  The first edition has attracted a huge amount of interest especially in a time when it has become obvious that there is a dire need for more Islamic media.
"The challenge has been interesting and is exciting as one is able to use the platform to address and assist real issues, says Faizal Sayed, the paper's Editor.  "One cannot always satisfy all but we try to incorporate elements which may satsify readers with various interest, philosophies and backgrounds" says Sayed
According to the publishers reader interatcion allows the design and editorial team to further fine tune the paper in both design and editorial and therefore encourage the public to keep them up to date with community events and news.
The company also has designated call centres dealing with it's publications and products manged by Nazreen Cassim.  An inbound number will be availble soon which will manage all public responses and enquiries.

The Islamic times, on the shelf

The characteristics of Islam are its universality, its comprehensiveness, rationalism, positivism, its pragmatism, its egalitarianism and simplicity and its humanitarianism. Islam seeks to set up the brotherhood among all men. Literally Islam means " Submission", surrender, obedience and peace. The multitude of populous of South Africa serves as an exemplified model for many in terms of how many religions, school of thought, racial groups and more co-exist in a very cosmopolitan environment. Islam itself, which arrived in South Africa more than 300 years ago, has had a profound effect on the demographical breakdown of this cosmopolitan environment, advocating a respectful, colourful and diverse relationship with other faiths across the country.
With the development of this community over the time in South Africa, it has become apparent that many sectors including media had to become part of this ever-evolving community. With this in mind, Faizal Sayed Media decided to embark on the project – the production of a monthly , tabloid sized, newspaper with an Islamic ethos called "The Islamic Times".
"Print Media in essence provides a perfect platform for the community to voice and raise issues in effect educating the public on various matters whilst at the same time providing an opportunity for businesses to advertise their services or products on a national level" Says Faizal Sayed, Chief Editor of the paper also known for his work as a Television Producer and TV Show Host.
The content of the paper will be diverse in an effort to reach a wide readership with various interest levels. The paper will comprise of regular features as well as short-term content fillers from time to time.
In an effort to reach a broader market, The Islamic Times has incorporated content that will appeal to various markets thus becoming a paper for everyone. The Target Market then is both male and female, from all age groups and inclusive of all LSM groups. Although being a paper enshrined with an Islamic ethos, the paper is aimed to reach all demographical groups providing content for all and ensuring an excellent opportunity for businesses no matter what the nature of the product or service may be.
According to Nazreen Cassim, Operations Director for Faizal Sayed Media, The first edition of The Islamic Times hits the shelves later this week and will be available at most mosques and selected shops at no cost to the public. Courtesy Faizal Sayed Media

THE FAIZAL SAYED SHOW REPLACES THE FRIDAY SERMON

Despite a successful season on local community TV station, CTV and ITV internationally, the Friday Sermon, which was a broadcast of the Friday Jumuah service has come to an end. It will be replaced by a new 30 minute talk show with Faizal Sayed. The Faizal Sayed Show will air at 7.30pm on Friday evenings on CTV.

32-year old Sayed who also produces the show, started his TV career in 2001 by working on a number of productions for SABC, ETV, ITV, CTV, Asian fusion and ICN. But he always had the desire to host his own show. "The idea was always there and people always pushed me in that direction. I believe in using a platform like this for the benefit of the people," said Sayed who rose to popularity with shows like Ramadaan at 4.

"Faizal's forte is panel discussions and one sees this during recordings, his ability to articulate in discussions and a natural ability to get lots of information and relax very nervous guest," said Ahmed Mohamed, operations manager at Faizal Sayed Media. The open format of the show allows it to cover important topics, review productions, authors, businesses and much more.

"We will focus on hardcore matters as I believe that only in this way can we look at problem areas, find solutions and educate the public on various issues," Sayed said, adding that since the show was promoted on the internet, feedback already began pouring in with suggestions on issues that could be tackled. The date for airing the first episode will be released shortly. More details at www.fsma.co.za
